Pidurangala Rock
The climb to the rock and back can be done in two hours max. you will need proper shoes. fully worth the effort.Lion rock may have more history to it, Pidurangala is far more quieter, cheaper, and offers a far greater view on the Lion rock. This rock should be your nr 1 Option instead of sigiriya - on sigiriya you have to wait to get to the top because sometimes there are so many tourists, pidurangala rock is cheaper without many tourists and the view is quiet the same - great look at the sigiriya and a perfect view around the landscape !!!
You need a basic level of fitness and mobility. Young children or those with health or mobility issues would struggle to make the climb. As would anyone with vertigo issues.
However, even if you can't climb, a visit is still worthwhile as the gardens and ruins below are lovely and the view of the rock good. There is a museum and cafe but we did not use either so can't comment.
It's very hot so take water and sunscreen. Very windy the day we visited so hats would not stay on unless tied/tight fitting. Wear trainers or similar and carry only a small rucksack, space can be tight in the steps.

Little Adam's Peak
It took about 20mins to walk up this peak and we are neither super fit nor super young. It's mainly steps with a tiny bit of scrabbling. Just take your time and take some water. The view is fabulous.Ella in Sri Lanka is a very well known worldwide for it’s breathtaking view and scenery, Little Adam’s Peak is just one of it. The eye catching, jaw dropping and conspicuous peak is the one not to miss, Situated in Ella, Sri Lanka, it has been attracting tourists for a long time now. The reason for its popularity is the amazing view that never fails to attract and impress the visitors.

Old Town of Galle and its Fortifications
The Dutch Fort with the old town of Galle within is a world class experience for the traveller. Initiated by the Portuguese, and strengthened by the Dutch and ultimately by the British it is a classic of its kind. Walking the ramparts gives one a feeling of what it would have been like in its heyday, before the town outside expanded. The narrow streets are still busy as you look down on them - parhaps all that has changed is that there are cars rather then horses. Sadly my visit was too short to explore everything as I was here on business. But I was here at the time of the Sri Lanka-India Test Match, and you can get a grandstand view (free) from the south East bastion.

Sigiriya World Heritage Site
Such a wonderfully well maintained area. Fascinating history, amazing view!! We climbed up with two small boys and they managed well but would suit the fit and night so faint hearted. If you visit Sri Lanka do visit Sigiriya Rock!!! It is one of the main sights, a really magnificent experience! It is surely recommended that you have a guide to inform you about the history of the monument and describe what you see. Though you have to climb enough stairs to the top, the spectacular view is worth it!

Citadel of Sigiriya - Lion Rock
Very beautiful rock, the climb is not hard, you can take your time, it is really worth it! The amazing view is so beautiful! Don't skip this when you are in Sri Lanka!!! An amazing place to visit. Would definitely recommend. Make the climb if you can.

Mihintale
Mihintale lies 8 miles east of Anuradhapura and is where Buddhism originated on the island. In 247 BC King DevanampiyaTissa of Anuradhapura. its a nice walk to the top of the mountain. and view is fantastic This is a must place to visit if you are to Anradhapura. Try to visit in the morning or evening hours because you will feel hard when its in the day time because of the heat.

The Golden Temple
The temple is a bit different than what you can see in Sri Lanka. The cave like temple is really great and has a special atmosphere. Many monks were visiting the site when we were there I saw a lot of Buddha's in my life, in Thailand for example and it all looks the same! But it is special that it was in cave! Very beautiful and full of history. Learn the difference of the paranirvana and sleeping Buddha - feet position

Udawalawe National Park
Great for first safari and to see elephants . We saw about 40 elephants, lots of crocodiles, deer, jackal, mongoose and plenty of bird life. Vehicles are very comfortable and guide was very helpful
This is the best place to see elephants in Sri Lanka. In addition the area is absolutely stunning. Start before sunrise to avoid the crowds and see everything to its full potential.

Bentota Beach
One of the best beaches i have been to, swimming in the ocean was super pleasant and fun, i would recommend that you walk/take tok tok to go all the way to the end of the beach where the sea meats the river, unforgettable scenes
It's a long and clean beach.... lovely to walk barefoot in the wet sands. Towards the end on both sides of the beach are some upmarket hotels and restaurants for beach/sea view eating experience.

World's End
Absolutely great place to see and a good hiking to do in the Horton plains. Thought the entry to the park is quite expensive for tourists.
Also if you do the hiking be sure to also do the little world's end.
Great place, but be aware that you will not be permitted to take any kind of plastics in the park. So if you take some snacks and things to eat be aware of that.

Amazing views but best to go early in the morning. It can be cloudy and raining for noon onwards. We arrived at 7am. Looked very busy at the entrance but ok in the park. Trail is around 8km and you need walking shoes.
