Worlds Largest Fire Hydrant
It is a fun oddity to see, but would be better if it were still working as a fountain. Better yet if it were surrounded by more pleasant scenery or a park. But if you like to see oddities, be sure to see it. And, be sure to read the story behind its creation.Definitely the largest one I've ever seen. Of course it does not work as it is just art. Close to the tunnel mural another "cool to look at for 2 min." and then leave kinda place.

Wade Hampton Statue
A truly awesome statue of one of the best South Carolina Governors in history. This majestic art form has such amazing detail... this was one of my family's favorite stops along our walking SC Capitol tour. We love American history. Highly recommend viewing the Wade Hampton Statue!

South Carolina State Museum
This Museum was a real find: Everything from dinosaurs to American history. The telescope allows visitors to see the sun. The volunteer at the telescope area was particularly helpful. He sought us out to view the sun with our daughter. There were several hands on exhibits that children love. We could easily have spent another two hours at the Museum. The Museum Building was once a textile factory. Very interesting.Great activity for a hot summer day!

Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Garden
Good zoo not a huge zoo you can get through it in about 2 hours.
Lots of kids stuff to do. My 12 year old loved the rock wall climbing and at $3.00 a climb it was worth it. The seal tank was fun to watch, their show lasted about 30 minutes with a good environment for the animals. The Gorilla enclosure was AWESOME! to stand behind a piece of glass and see a 400 pound gorilla staring back at you was unnerving but soo cool.

This is a great place to go with or without children. The season pass is a great buy for a family.

South Carolina State House
Beautiful inside, great architecture in and out. Full of Civil War and Confederate history. Nice monuments surrounding the building including the Wade Hampton equestrian statue. Give yourself an hour to walk around.
This is a lovely place to visit. Take either a self-guided tour, or let a knowledgeable guide give you an interesting history lesson. The architecture is lovely, the staff is top-notch. Be sure to see all the statuary and points of interest on the grounds.
